IFA, which today opens its doors, is dominated by 4K and high-resolution video content. Therefore, it is no surprise that the demand for Ultra HD Blu-ray discs with storage capacities of up to 100 gigabytes is on a steady rise. With this in mind,Sonopress, the global provider of media services has now expanded its production capacity for high-resolution storage media and commissioned its second UHD-100 production machine. Nearly simultaneously to this step, the five millionth such next-generation disc came off the production line at the company’s headquarters.
“Five million UHDs in less than a year and a half is fantastic, a number we would never have expected when we launched production,” says Sonopress Managing Director Sven Deutschmann. “And demand on the part of our clients is now so huge that the decision to invest in expanding our production capacity was easily made,” he adds. Besides the two UHD-100 machines, the company’s capacity includes six UHD-66 production lines. The clients who are increasingly having UHDs produced at Sonopress include international companies such as the Hollywood Studios Warner Bros. and Universal Pictures International, as well as domestic vendors such as Concord Home Entertainment and Highlight Constantin.
Since the beginning of 2016, Sonopress has been a key provider of the technology behind the Ultra HD Blu-ray format. The company has received several awards for technical development achievements, including the prestigious DEG Award for “Best Digital Product and Service Innovation” and the TOP 100 seal awarded by compamedia for exceptional innovative strength and extraordinary innovation achievements.
